COURSE INFORMATION:

The Emergency First Aid at Work training course syllabus covers essential first aid techniques and knowledge required to handle workplace emergencies. The course is designed to meet Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements and typically includes the following topics:

• Roles and Responsibilities of a First Aider

  • Understanding the duties of a workplace first aider and the importance of immediate response.

• Primary Survey

  • Conducting a quick assessment to identify life-threatening conditions.

• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Practical training on performing CPR for adults, including chest compressions and rescue breaths.

• Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Safe usage of AEDs, including when and how to use the device effectively.

• Managing an Unconscious Casualty

  • Techniques for handling unconscious but breathing individuals, including placing them in the recovery position.

• Choking Management

  • Recognising choking and delivering back blows and abdominal thrusts to clear airway obstructions.

• Dealing with Shock

  • Identifying signs of shock and administering appropriate first aid to stabilise the casualty.

• Wound Management and Bleeding Control

  • Managing external bleeding and applying bandages and dressings to wounds.

• Burns and Scalds

  • Identifying different types of burns and providing appropriate first aid, including cooling and dressing burns.

• Minor Injuries

  • Managing common workplace injuries, such as small cuts, bruises, and sprains.

• Anaphylaxis

  • Recognising severe allergic reactions and using an adrenaline auto-injector (EpiPen) if required.

• Recording Incidents and Accident Reporting

  • Proper documentation and reporting of first aid incidents in the workplace.

This course provides participants with the skills to respond confidently to a wide range of workplace emergencies, ensuring that they can offer critical assistance when needed.
